Who doesn’t love Calvin and Hobbes? Seriously?!? That comic was my childhood. Another favorite comic strip of mine, Pearls Before Swine, featured some artwork in it from Bill Watterson himself! The strips in question are below.
The week long series was about a second grader named Libby who could draw better than Stephen, a play at his simplistic art style. Pastis revealed that the artwork was in fact drawn by Watterson. In the last cartoon of the sequence, Libby explains to Pastis that she would not continue drawing comic strips, saying that “There’s a magical world out there,” a reference to the words spoken by Calvin in the final strip of Calvin and Hobbes.
It’s too bad that Bill Watterson isn’t returning for good.
Still, it’s nice to know that he cares enough to give us a bone. Even if it’s never going to be a Calvin and Hobbes movie. *cries*
